WhatsApp users shared Record Number of Messages on This New Year

WhatsApp Messenger is a freeware, cross-platform messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP) service owned by Facebook.  It allows users to send text messages and voice messages,  make voice and video calls, and share images, documents, user locations, and other media.  WhatsApp’s client application runs on mobile devices but is also accessible from desktop computers, as long as the user’s mobile device remains connected to the Internet while they use the desktop app. The service requires users to provide a standard cellular mobile number for registering with the service.

In this New Year’s Eve Whatsapp revealed that users exchanged over 100 billion messages on the New Year’s eve. And out of that number, more than 20 billion messages were shared by Indian users alone. Moreover, around 12 billion out of the 100 billion+ messages shared on the platform were images.

Whatsapp has released an Press Notice and It says that over 100 billion messages were shared globally on December 31 in the 24-hour duration leading up to the midnight of New Year’s Eve. This is a record-breaking volume,  and it is the highest number of messages exchanged in a single day.  And it says, over 100 billion+ messages shared on New Year’s eve, WhatsApp says over 12 billion were images.

Contribution of Indian Users:

The Contribution of Indians in this record is mainly notable.  Whatsapp says, In India the users have been shared over 20 billion messages on New Year’s Eve.  And it is nearly one-fifth of the total number of messages exchanged globally.  Whatsapp is the main Messenger that has been used by Maximum number of people in India.
